ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Sarah Nolen is a puppeteer & director originally from Austin, Texas. She earned an MFA in Puppet Arts from the University of Connecticut, and a BFA in Cinema-Television from Southern Methodist University. Through her company, Puppet Motion, Sarah works in puppetry for both stage and screen.
Most recently, Sarah premiered a new solo touring show, “Party Animals” in June of 2025, and puppeteered the head of “Lion” in Adam Theater’s “Library Lion” this past January in Boston. She directed Sandglass Theater’s original stage production of “Feral,” which premiered at the International Puppets in the Green Mountains Festival in 2024, and is now touring. Her solo hand puppet show “Judy Punches Back” won “Best Shorty” at the 2025 Boston Fringe Festival. On the film front, Sarah built and performed “Sammy” for Netflix’s 2022 film “Don’t Look Up;” and directed thirteen episodes of “Feel Your Best Self,” a series of short videos in collaboration with the University of Connecticut.
Her own original pilot production, “Treeples,” was awarded the Mister Rogers Memorial Scholarship in 2015. With seven touring puppet productions in rotation, Sarah has dabbled in everything from pop-up book mechanics, shadow worlds, to hand puppet comedy, and object performance.
