Tech Riders for Puppet Artists
The document that protects your show, your budget, and your relationships with presenters.
Whether you're loading into a 500-seat theater or setting up in a living room for a birthday party, the venue needs to know exactly what your show requires before you arrive. A clear, professional tech rider is how you communicate that. Without one, you're troubleshooting on-site. With one, you're walking in with a plan everyone already agreed to.
This on-demand class, taught by Little Shadow founder Jean Marie Keevins, walks you through building a tech rider from the ground up, using the exact framework Little Shadow uses on tour. You'll leave with a ready-to-use template you can customize for any show, any venue, and any budget.
What You'll Learn
- How to structure a tech rider presenters will actually read and honor
- What to include for scenic, audio, lighting, and puppets, and what to leave flexible
- How to communicate crew, load-in, and strike needs clearly
- How to set expectations around backstage facilities and hospitality
- How to write rider language that protects you without alienating presenters
- How to adapt a single rider across venues of wildly different scale
What You'll Leave With
- Lifetime access to the full on-demand class recording
- A complete, customizable Tech Rider template, ready to fill in for your own show
- A framework you can reuse for every future production
Who This Is For
Puppet artists, company managers, and production managers who are booking or touring work of any size. If you've ever shown up to a venue and discovered they didn't know what you needed, or spent hours the night before a show writing rider language from scratch, this class will save you that stress next time around.
